Research Assistant (Ref. 260821-01)

[Appointment period: three months]


Duties


The appointee will assist the Principal Investigator in the Research Grants Council (RGC) funded project - “Maximizing the Sustainable Energy Generation Potential from Ultra-Low Grade Waste Heat: Thermo-4E Optimization and Decision Making Analysis for Novel Integrated Vapor Compression Cycle and the Organic Rankine Cycle with Zeotropic Working Fluids”. He/She will be required to:


(a) conduct focused literature review and technical data collection related to artificial intelligence, machine learning, optimisation, techno-economic analysis, and decision making applications for thermal and energy systems;

(b) develop end-to-end data driven modelling pipelines involving data preprocessing, feature selection, model training, hyper-parameter tuning, sensitivity analysis, validation, and quantitative performance evaluation;

(c) assist in developing AI enabled decision making frameworks by integrating optimised thermodynamic, economic, environmental, and sustainability indicators with appropriate multi criteria decision making methods;

(d) analyse large multi parameter datasets generated from thermodynamic and 4E simulations and develop statistically reliable correlations, surrogate models, prediction tools, and visualization frameworks, and

(e) perform any other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


Applicants should have:


(a) an honours degree or an equivalent qualification, preferably in artificial intelligence, computer science, data science, computational engineering, mechanical engineering, energy engineering, applied mathematics or related disciplines;

(b) knowledge and practical experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning, numerical modelling, data analytics, or computational optimization;

(c) good programming skills in Python and or MATLAB, with experience in commonly used machine learning libraries and frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit learn, or equivalent computational tools;

(d) experience in developing data driven pipelines involving preprocessing, model development, hyperparameter optimization, validation, statistical assessment, and interpretation of computational results;

(e) the ability to work independently, manage computational research tasks systematically, and complete research deliverables within a defined project schedule, and

(f) a strong sense of responsibility, enthusiasm of research, attention to detail, and willingness to work collaboratively with the Principal Investigator and project research team.
